my newest celebrity crush

Mary Louise Parker

I think she is beautiful, talented and fabulous. I love her hair, her face, her voice, and her role choices. I loved her on the West Wing and I now love her on Weeds. I love her name. Everything about her is just great.

I am so over Maggie Gyllenhaal (who I like for many of the same reasons) and I am now switching my celebrity girl crush to Mary Louise Parker.

And for those of you who think I am crazy you are in good company: my mom can't stand her!

Things I have been thinking about:

1) Leapfrog educational games for children. You know what is educatoinal? Reading to your children. Talking to your children. Playing with your children. Making-up stories with your children. Listening with your children. Do these things and you will drastically increase your chances of having happy, well-rounded, intellgent children. That is how your children will became well-adjusted, smart kids. Not sitting in the backseat of the car or in the livingroom while you wax nogalstic about how well they are being taught (parented?) by an army of mircochips!

2) Why is the weather mad at Victoria? Why did it snow. And then snow. and then rain. and then be very cold. why are my shoes wet and my toes cold and my super warm sweaters in toronto?

3) Eggnog chai lattes. I totally forgot you could get those. And I really want one.

4) Britney Spears. Why. Why. Why. On second thought, I don't think the answer would actually be very interesting.

britney and children.

okay.

so the rumours are true. britney spears is pregnant. again. with k-feds baby. again.

however - this post is not about, what is rapidly becomming, my unhealthy obsession with celebrity gossip.

when I read the news I felt bad for britney. apparently she is unhappily married, and was going to file for divorce when she realized she was pregnant - hence the now trying to work on the marriage (and for the record - clearly marriage is work and something to be given up - though there are instances where the situation could become intolerable - I clearly do not know enough about their marriage to offer an opinion on that).

but I digress. my point is that there are thousands/tens of thousands of children born every year in North America where the pregnancy was unplanned (i hesitate to use the word unwanted - because unplanned certainly does not mean unwanted). And yet - here I am - having sympathy for someone with the financial resources to have access to: proper medical care, a nutrionist, professional childcare givers, therapy, birth control etc.

instead my thoughts should be on the millions of young women in the united states and canada who do not have access to these things. access to proper pre-natal care, post-natal mental health outreach, qualified daycare providers - and don't get me started on the lack of access to (and information about) birth control. (not knowing about condom usage will not stop kids from having sex; it will, however, mean that they will not use condoms when they do so).

Women/girls who for lack of economic and educational opportunites have such limited opportunites generally. I can only imagine what a gift motherhood must be - but I feel for all those mothers out there who cannot afford proper medical care for their children, who have to work 60hours a week to support their children without having qualified subsidized daycare to help look after their children. Balancing the need to provide for their child with the need to be there for their child.

Britney Spears may have problems - but hers are not the problems we should be focusing on or thinking about.

night with house.

okay.

so house is no substitute for D., but Hugh Laurie is pretty cute and has a super sexy American accent (it counts as an accent becuase it is not real). now that being said he is getting busy with Sela ward - but that's okay because if I was Hugh Laurie I would think that she was pretty hot too. And let me just add that the two of them look really hot naked. (well - primetime t.v. naked).

i think i need to start doing more interesting things so i have something to write about on my blog. my life consists of doing schoolwork, wathcing Grey's Anatomy, and going to bed with the hottest guy I know.

speaking of hot guys... the man in the walmart commercial is really really unattractive. i'm sorry. but he is. oh oh! maybe I am being judgemental. it must be all the bad influcence of all my judgemental friends.

note: american idol. we freakin' live in a culture where everyone feels as though they have the right to judge. we all do it. all the time. it's like people exist for us to judge. it's the world that we live in - fucked up though that may be. that girl is too fat for those jeans, that guy is too skinny for his jeans. She looks like a slut, he looks dirty. I mean look at Britney and KFed - If that doesn't sum up everything that's wrong with our society (and I mean our response to them - we created them - they are in many ways a product of the society which we very actively produced). Anyways - moral of the story is that we all judge and some judgements are more significant and hurtful and far reaching than others.

alright. those are my thoughts for now.
