You caught my interest with the "hypodermic needles"???
we had not one, but two encounters with said needles.
the first was in victoria when a homeless man asked us for money because he was performing a public service by picking up used needles which had been left around the inner harbour, and then proceeded to show us at least a dozen needles which he had collected.
(I checked online, and there is actually a program where homeless people collect disgarded needles as a public service to the community and as a way of keeping there living space (outside) clean).
The second encounter was in Vancouver's Chinatown, about two blocks from East Hastings, where we came across a needle lying next to the sidewalk at an intersection where we crossing.
Needless to say, when someone is visiting Canada for the first time, they tend to freak out when it appears to them as though all of Victoria and Vancouver and covered in needles and inhabitated by drug addicts. My friend doesn't actually think this, but she was definetly very freaked out (and justifiably so).
So that is my very long explanation of "hypodermic needles"
as always you are correct, the memory is incomplete without adding that you came along and were completely charming and a delightful addition to our meal.
he is clearly more mature than the rest of us then...we would have added rowdiness and would probably been less than charming ;-)
i like to see all that shopping on the list. it doesn't get much better than shopping with some fun people.
