I just heard someone on t.v. refer to attending the westminister dog show as being successful in their "sport"
a dog show?
seriously?
a sport?
that makes ice dancing look like a triathalon.

Unfortunately TSN has broadcast the dog show in previous years. They also show darts and poker which aren't sports either but at least they have some gamesmanship to them.
i would argue that there is more athleticism in ice dancing than in something like baseball...
(and yes, i'm trying to start a fight)
I'm a baseball fan so I'll bite. It takes incredible hand eye co-ordination to hit a round ball with a round bat when the ball is moving as fast as it is. Then there's catching it, throwing it, runnning flat out on the base path or in the outfield. I'm sure that any cathcer that has been steamrolled while blocking home plate will tell you that takes athleticism and guts. That said no one deserves 30 million dollars a year to play a game that little children play, no matter what the sport is.
i am a former figure skater (although not ice dancer - i have no timing whatsoever) so i can say that it is indeed a sport and takes a lot of years and hours of practice and athleticism. but dog shows? while hilarious and mildly creepy, i don't think they are a sport.
there is no way that poker is a sport though. seriously now. that is called a game
Just to be fair - I chose figure skating because I was also a figure skater (I use this term loosely).
I think poker is more of a sport than dog showing because I think there is more skill involved - although arguably there is more athleticism in dog showing... hmmm....
they do have to run around that ring...and lift their dogs...
i would say that a sport requires skill AND athleticism, therefore poker is not a sport (and yes, baseball is...but i would say that many ice dancers are more athletic that certain baseball players). but that's just me.
I do agree that certain ice dancers are more athletic than certain baseball players. I love the GAME of poker but I would never consider it a sport. The only physical part of the game is sitting on your butt for hours at a time.
